Fire Safe Council of San Diego County (FSCSDC) coordinators are available to offer support and resources to existing Fire Safe Councils (FSCs) and communities interested in forming FSCs. The FSCSDC can provide educational presentations and displays about wildfire safety, defensible space management, and disaster preparedness for meetings and public outreach events. Community Fire Safe Council Support

The Associate membership program is a voluntary agreement program designed by the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County to help maintain the integrity of groups using the name and/or logo of the Fire Safe Council.

The Memorandum of Agreement has been established for Community Fire Safe Councils desiring Associate (advisory) Membership with the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County (FSCSDC).  Please carefully review the Memorandum of Agreement with your council members. If your FSC members fully understand the terms of the agreement and agree to comply with the terms, please complete and submit the signed original Memorandum of Agreement to the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County at 1524-A Graves Avenue, El Cajon, CA. 92021.  All submitted Memorandums of Agreement and use of Community FSC name and logo will be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors of the FSCSDC.

            Benefits & Services Offered to Associate Member Councils

  • Associate Membership with the FSCSDC (advisory, nonvoting member of the Board of Directors)
  • California Fire Safe Council has authorized the FSCSDC to approve/register local FSC logos and use of the name “Fire Safe Council” on its behalf upon review by FSCSDC Board of Directors. FSCSDC will notify CAFSC of all Associate Members as approved.  (All questions regarding legal issues are to be referred to the CAFSC which owns and/or has copyright for the name and logo of the Fire Safe Council.)

Fuel Reduction Program

About the Chipping Service:

This program offers no-cost chipping service for fuel reduction to qualified residents in the following areas: Banner, Barona Mesa, Boulder Creek, Bouldvard, Campo/Lake Morena, Canebreak Springs, Chihuahua Valley, Corte Madera, Deerhorn Valley, Descanso, Dulzura, Greater Julian, Guatay, Jacumba, Jamul, Mesa Grande, Oak Grove, Pine Valley, Potrero, Ramona, Ranchita, Santa Teresa Valley, Santa Ysabel, SD Country Estates, Sherilton Valley, Sunshine Summit, Tecate, Warner Springs, and Witch Creek. Additional communities may be added. Please call our office at (619) 562-0096 for the most current program information.

Registration is available on a first come first serve basis.

Things to know before requesting to be on the chipping list:

  • You’ll be asked to provide your phone number, address, the approximate  size of your pile to be chipped and size of your property (in acres)
  • No ground-clearing disturbance permitted while removing tree limbs/brush
  • Pile must be accessible within five feet of road and/or driveway
  • Chipping crew is not responsible for moving brush beyond a 5’ distance from the chipper
  • No brush or limbs to exceed 6” in diameter
  • Piles should be no more than four feet high; no tractor stacked piles allowed
  • No palm, cactus, poison oak, or ice plant will be chipped
  • No rocks, trash, construction materials or excessive dirt in piles
  • Chipped material will be left on site in the area, not hauled away

Rural Home Fire Safety for Real Estate Professionals - One Day Course

ATTENTION—ALL REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS!

Educate yourself and your clients about living with wildfire!

The “Rural Home Fire Safety for Real Estate Professionals” course (DRE Sponsor No. 4440) will be offered to interested real estate professionals beginning in the spring of 2007.  Students will receive 6 Consumer Service Continuing Education Units upon successful course completion.
                        
This course has been developed by the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County, in partnership with the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County, to give students an opportunity to learn about the reality of living with wildfire in California and what factors increase the fire danger to a home as well as what features make a structure more fire-resistant.  This course will prepare real estate professionals to better assist clients in selling and selecting homes located and built with fire safety in mind.

Topics of this course include:

  • concerns of living in rural and semi-rural areas
  • fire behavior
  • features of a fire-resistant home
  • proper homeowner response to wildfire
  • general fire prevention for any home
  • preparing for fire in any home
  • information on fire departments and other resources.
