DESCRIPTION:The Deer Springs Fire Safe Council will present “Home and Life Survivability in the Wildland Urban Interface” Saturday May 21\, 2022 at the Hidden Meadows Pavilion\, 28208 Meadow Glen Way West from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Captain Thomas Shoots (CAL FIRE Public Information Officer) will discuss \n\nChange in Climate/Fire Conditions\nFire Behavior\nEmergency Notifications\nEvacuation\n\nas well as other topics important for your and your home’s survival in a wildfire. This program will be of interest to all area residents especially those who are new to living in “fire country.” The seminar is free but seating is limited and pre-registration is recommended. DESCRIPTION:After hosting our FSC General Meetings via Zoom for two years\, we are excited to announce we are bringing these events back in person starting this May! We will have an exciting guest speaker\, Douglas Stow\, a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at San Diego State University. He has worked in the remote sensing field for almost 45 years and his research focuses on multitemporal image analysis\, with an emphasis on mapping and monitoring of land use and land cover\, vegetation and habitat condition\, wildfire spread and post-hazard damage. He will kick off our meeting with a presentation on his research which focuses on how fuel and topography influence the rate of wildfire spread. \nAfterwards\, we will have updates from the FSCSDC Board and time for all partners and community fire safe councils to give an update of what they are working on.
