Who We Are
Who We Are
The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County works to reduce the risk and impact of wildfire through collaboration, education, and community action. We bring together residents, local Fire Safe Councils, fire agencies, and organizations across the region to build safer, more resilient communities.
Our mission is to provide an exchange of information through education and training, and to foster fire prevention and safety throughout the San Diego region.
Our Role
We serve as the countywide support hub for local Fire Safe Councils and wildfire preparedness programs. Through partnerships, education, and technical assistance, we help communities:
- Develop Community Wildfire Protection Plans
- Coordinate defensible space and home hardening projects
- Organize chipping and fuel reduction events
- Connect with fire agencies and emergency partners
The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County’s Board of Directors is collaborative in nature, made up of representatives from state, federal, and local fire agencies such as CAL FIRE, San Diego County Fire, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife, and more.
Our Impact
Since our funding in 1997, the Fire Safe San Diego County has helped:
- Develop and support over 50 local Fire Safe Councils across the County.
- Support hundreds of community members in creating and maintaining defensible space.
- Provide hundreds of educational home assessments.
- Secure millions of dollars in grants for local wildfire resilience projects and programs.
- Support the development of over 30 Community Wildfire Protection Plans.
Every community that takes part strengthens San Diego County’s wildfire resilience.
Our Vision
The vision of the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County is to foster a fire safe / fire wise region that has developed through an ongoing course of public education, training, and community collaboration project support.
