Starting a Local Fire Safe Council

20071023_mdm_s44_679_webThe Fire Safe Council of San Diego County is the umbrella for local Fire Safe Councils. We are here to support existing Fire Safe Councils as well as to help communities start new councils in their area. To learn more about the support we provide to Fire Safe Councils, please see Support for Fire Safe Councils section.

Newly forming Fire Safe Councils are invited to join the Associate Membership Program of the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County (FSCSDC), a voluntary agreement program designed to help maintain the integrity of groups using the FSC name and logo.

Fire Safe Council Associate Membership Program

The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County offers an Associate Membership Program through which community FSCs are recognized by the CA Fire Safe Council and authorized to use the Fire Safe Council name and logo. Becoming an Associate Member allows representatives of Community Fire Safe Councils to serve in a non-voting advisory capacity to the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County’s Board of Directors. In addition, one At-Large council representative is selected from all the Associate Members to sit as a voting member of the Board of Directors.  Applications to the Associate Membership Program are reviewed and approved by the Executive Board of the FSCSDC. Active participation in the Associate Membership Program is highly encouraged.

If you are interested in starting a fire safe council in your community please contact us. We can come to your community meeting to discuss the benefits of community FSCs and how to get started.

Community FSCs in San Diego are part of the state-wide network of fire safe councils. Visit the California Fire Safe Council’s website for information and resources, including additional guidance about starting a Fire Safe Council.
