Funding Sources

Funding for all Fire Safe Council of San Diego County programs is derived from various sources, such as agency, foundation, and corporate grants. Our current funders include:

US Forest Service
Significant funding for our no-cost chipping program is provided by the US Forest Service, through their National Fire Plan grants. These programs are managed by the California Fire Safe Council Grants Clearinghouse.

We received funding from the San Diego Foundation through its Building Regional Resilience grant program. Using their San Diego, 2050 Is Calling, How Will We Answer? report as our foundation, we used these funds to strengthen San Diego County’s network of community Fire Safe Councils.
This grant was made possible by the Climate Initiative.

Grant money from SDG&E / Sempra Energy has allowed us to continue our Defensible Space Assistance Program (DSAP), which helps low income senior citizens and disabled residents in high wildfire areas create defensible space around their homes.

The RCD manages the programs and the funds for the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County, offering in-kind support through staff time.
