National 811 Day
August 11, 2018
Tomorrow is National 811 Day. As part of our commitment to provide you with safety information and helpful tips, here’s some useful information about the 811 DigAlert FREE program.
Did you know that underground pipelines can be located anywhere, including under streets, sidewalks and private property – sometimes just inches below the surface?
This year, there have been nearly 200 gas emergencies due to construction or landscaping activities in San Diego County. Hitting one of these pipelines while digging, planting or doing demolition work can cause serious injury, property damage, loss of utility service, as well as result in fines up to $50,000 through the California Underground Facilities Safe Excavation Board.
If you are planning to build a major development, work on a DIY home project or landscape your yard, call 8-1-1 or submit a request at DigAlert.org at least two business days prior to digging. SDG&E will mark the location of the buried gas lines free of charge.
