Wildland Urban Interface Workshop – Descanso

Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface: for Community FSCs, CERT Members, and Local Residents
Course description: This is a one day in-depth course for local residents to learn the principles used by firefighters in suppressing wildland fire and protecting structures in the Wildland Urban Interface. Participants will learn about fire behavior prediction and apply this knowledge to the community’s topography, fuels, weather, and the community’s Fire Safe condition including the construction of homes. The training will include a field trip to selected homes to do a site assessment on lessons learned, and discussions about evacuation and survival tips.

This workshop is hosted by the Descanso Fire Safe Council & SDCFA CERT – So. Division, and administered by the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County, in partnership with the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County. Funding is provided by the United States Forest Service & a National Fire Plan grant from the Cooperative Fire program of the U.S. Forest Service through the California Fire Safe Council.
